Resolution

ResolutionI’ve never been one to make resolutions at the beginning of a new year.  I try to make goals regardless of the time of year.  I have an idea of what I need and focus on taking the right steps to achieve that goal.  Sometimes it doesn’t pan out but I have to say I’ve been pretty fortunate.  I never think I have gotten to a place where I can sit back and relax.  I like to feel I am being proactive in living.   I am trying to be kinder to myself when things don’t go exactly as planned and refuse to give up on the fact that we are responsible for our own happiness.

I recently found a newspaper clipping I saved that must be at least 30 years old.  It is yellow with age and much of it is right on the money.  It’s entitled “Just for today” and lists things to do that will help with a better life.

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is.  Just for today I will face reality. Just for today I will improve my mind. Just for today I will be totally honest. Just for today, before I speak I will ask myself, “Is it true? Is it kind?” Just for today I will improve my mind. Just for today I will improve my health.  Just for today I will be happy.  Just for today I will be unafraid.

Seems like a tall order to do all in a day but then again the alternative seems a lot more work.  Because combined all of it comes down to one thing.  Just for today I’ll not improve on anyone else except myself.

So if there is one resolution I’m going to make this year it’s to try to live just for today.  Because I know those days will add up to a lifetime of realizing that as I give to the world, the world will give to me.
